This Sunday 14 GYC Juniors started the Optimist season in the sailing club Neuhaus-Interlaken. Getting out with almost no wind they soon met very high wind with great excitement.

GYC Ski-Yachting - The Ski-Yachting for Juniors 2010 was won by the team Würsten/Baumgartner from the Gstaad Yacht Club.

Parallel to the GYC Team Trophy the Juniors as well got the chance to show their talent. The 4th Gstaad Yacht Club Junior Trophy welcomed three classes - Optimist Beginners and Advanced Optis as well as 420s.
Heavy rain in the morning frightened some of the very young sailors and in the afternoon ten Juniors started together. After three regattas everybody met in the Thunersee Yacht Club for the price giving ceremony.
Just having started sailing with the Gstaad Yacht Club Kids sailing programme this year Loïs Koiij won in the Optimist beginners category followd by Rhys de Dycker and Alexander Stiefel. After five weekends of training in spring and summer and an intensive summer sailing week in the sailing school in Hilterfingen they proofed their knowledge participating in their first regatta.
Once more in the Advanced Optimist Class both brothers, Christoph and Eric Würsten showed their talent. Followed by his brother Eric defender of the trophy, Christoph Würsten once more won the Junior Trophy 2009. Virginie Lienhart sailed in third.
The 420s this year presented a head to head regatta. Team Gennaro di Giacomo/ Stefan Färber in the end beat the sisters Sophie and Louise Lienhart, who in the end had to come in second.
The Gstaad Yacht Club will continue the Kids programme for the children of the Saanen area in 2010. Juniors 8 to 14 years old interested in sailing could contact the Gstaad Yacht Club office via e-mail: secretary@gstaadyachtclub.com.
Congratulation: GYC sport member Wyss and Thomann in Alinghi Talent Scout Camp
The Gstaad Yacht Club congratulates the two 420 sailors Cyril Wyss and Dominic Thomann and wishes all the best for their participation in the Alinghi Talent Scout Camp in Ipsach, Switzerland 17 to 21 October 2009.
420 TBSV Juniors Cup - Cyril and Dominic (GYC) to win 3rd
Thun - 27th + 28th June 2009
Last weekend the TBSV Juniors Cup took place in cooperation with the Thunersee Yacht Club on lake Thun. After two days of sailing with five races in greatest sunshine GYC/ TYC Sports members Cyril Wyss and Dominic Thomann finished tight with 16 points same as Caflisch and Pfister (TYC). Cyril and Dominic finally won the 3rd place achieving their advantage of sailing one out of the five races coming in first.
25/26 April 2009 - A meadow full of Optis!
The past weekend the first Training for the beginners and advanced learners of the TYC took place at lake Thun. In bright sunshine and under ideal wind conditions 14 'Opti children' started the new sailing season. In the same time they christened two new Optis (5 and 6)! During the training Fränzi and Kauko have been supported by the Opti sailors Sämi, Nik, Laura and Michelle of the regatta group. The start went well of. A good Omen for the Optiseason 2009! The GYC opti team will follow the weekend 9 May 2009.

Future Sailers explore the boat
Six children willing to learn sailing joined the information session in the GYC Clubhouse, Saturday 28th March 2009. Our Juniors Trainer, Caroline Buyssens explained the basics of sailing, wind, water and waves and showed the the ‘Optimist’. The course will start Saturday, 9th May 2009 at the sailing school Hilterfingen on lake Thun.
